The Protection of God’s Children
Nativity of Our Lord Parish implements a safe environment program in accordance with Diocese of Superior policy and the Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, in order to: promote healing and reconciliation with victims/survivors of sexual abuse of minors; guarantee an effective response to allegations of sexual abuse of minors; ensure the accountability of our procedures; and protect the faithful.
Diocesan Safe Environment curriculum guidelines are used both in the Catholic School and the Religious Education Program. Appropriate grade-level materials are used annually to present sexual abuse awareness and prevention.
The parish is also in complete compliance of the diocesan Safe Environment Plan in regards to those working with minors, along with all follow-up documentation. Three or four BASE (Basic Adult Safe Environment) trainings are held each year for parish and school employees and volunteers. BASE training includes: a description and history of the Charter; signs of sexual abuse; warning signs of a predator; grooming tactics of predators; limiting access to minors; protecting yourself against allegations; and reporting requirements. Along with a diocesan background check, a BASE training qualifies an individual to participate in activities with minors.
