Confirmation

Confirmation

Confirmation is the second of the sacraments of initiation traditionally but when Baptism takes place in infancy, it follows Holy Communion. It is the perfection of Baptism, and it gives us the grace to live our lives as Christians. In Confirmation we are not confirming our faith, but the church is confirming what took place at Baptism. Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.

While every sacrament gives God’s grace, Confirmation is the one we most closely associate with the Holy Spirit. At Confirmation the Spirit moves through our lives and brings his gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, piety, fortitude, and fear of the Lord in a unique way.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the senior year of high school, at the end of a three year process. The first two years (9 &10) consist of mainly scripture study with small group discussion. The third year (11) focuses on the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit and final preparation for Confirmation. Candidates attend classes and work individually with their sponsors for direction and guidance. Confirmation is celebrated in the fall of their senior year.
